Wine is an alcoholic beverage typically made of fermented grape juice. The natural chemical balance of grapes is such that they can ferment without the addition of sugars, acids, enzymes or other nutrients. Wine is produced by fermenting crushed grapes using various types of yeast. Yeast consumes the sugars found in the grapes and converts them into alcohol. Different varieties of grapes and strains of yeasts are used depending on the type of wine being produced. Cognac, named after the town of Cognac in France, is the most famous variety of brandy, produced in the wine-growing region surrounding the town from which it takes its name. Cognac is made from eaux-de-vie (literally, “waters of life”) produced by doubly distilling the white wines. |
| Commentary from the Designer: There’s something about vintage “wine label” shirts that people find very appealing. I’m not sure if it is the colorful and very creative designs or the nostalgia of thinking about a distinctive wine and how it must have tasted back in its day. |
