| From Wikopedia: The wolverine (also referred to as a glutton and occasionally as a carcajou, skunk bear, quickhatch, or gulon) is the largest land-dwelling species of the weasel family. It is a stocky and muscular carnivore, more closely resembling a small bear. The wolverine has a reputation for ferocity and strength out of proportion to its size, with the documented ability to kill prey many times its size. The wolverine is distributed primarily in remote reaches of the Northern boreal forests and subarctic and alpine tundra of the Northern hemisphere, with the greatest numbers in Alaska, Canada, the Nordic countries of Europe and throughout western Russia and Siberia. Their populations have experienced a steady decline since the 19th century.John James Audubon (April 26, 1785 – January 27, 1851) was a French-American ornithologist, naturalist, hunter, and painter. He painted, catalogued, and described the birds of North America in a form far superior to what had gone before. In his outsize personality and achievements, he seemed to represent the new American nation of the United States. | |
| Commentary from the Designer: I really love the work that John James Audubon did with his famous and now classic drawings from nature and the animal world. This particular Audubon drawing of a wolverine is rather unique in that very few people today have actually seen a live wolverine. Wolverines are known for their nasty personalities so maybe they are best and happiest in the more remote wilderness. | |
